Review of City of Ember (2008) by Cole W — 03 Dec 2009
You know even if I didn't like the film and I didn't think it had visual impact or important messages for the current generation of moviegoers (besides the implied leave tradition and adults in the dust) I would rate this movie highly just to thumb my nose at critics that use words like "wan".
I found the city of Ember engaging and engrossing, and the symbolism if not a little forced, to be impactful and resonating. I did not agree with the total message of the film, which I think probably explains why it didn't do better, however for the contemprary kids film the City of Ember has come as close as I have seen in years to creating a lasting memorable movie for children that isn't tied to the great and almighty Disney.
