Review of City Lights (2014) by Henrik T — 05 Feb 2008
Sentimental it is but why is that such a problem for some people? This was made after the advent of sound but Chaplin boldly stayed silent. This is a fairy tale romance where a blind flower seller is rescued from poverty by Chaplin's tramp but she doesn't expect her unlikely saviour is a knight in shabby armour.
The ending is one of the most moving moments in cinema ever. Chaplin was a genius, he could do it all and in this movie he proves it.
