Review of City Lights (2014) by Roberto N — 22 May 2008
Masterpiece is the best work to describe this film. Chaplin was already struggling with the fact talking movies were more popular, but made this a timeless classic. Just one word: perfection. One example: Chaplin stopped filming for one entire year until he found a plausible way to introduce the blind flower girl to the tramp.
.. The result is a funny and poignant scene, that is recognised as one of the most important in film history. There's also the drunk millionaire, who loves him when drunk and hates him when sober! And the tragic tramp, always working to make his love done happy.
