Review of City Lights (2014) by Jack W — 27 Dec 2009
Warm, heartfelt and uplifting. Chaplin is great as the tramp, as always and his supporting characters really help him out here. The drunk millionaire is classic and him and the tramp are a great duo. The blind girl pulls the heart strings of course and if you were the tramp wouldn't you do all you could for her? The best and funniest sequences had to be the boxing match.
Punch and hold, Chaplin's strategy almost works. One thing I noticed was the constant homosexual undertones in his dealings with the drunk millionaire and the boxer. There was definitely something being said within the context of these relationships.
Fun film to watch.
