Review of City Lights (2014) by Matt M — 16 Aug 2017
The tramp struggles to help a blind flower girl he has fallen in love with. This film is the work of a legendary filmmaker at the heights of his artistic powers. It is no secret that Chaplin could mix laughs and tears in the most hilariously heartbreaking and natural of ways, but this film is particularly perfectly balanced even by his standards.
Furthermore, the tramp's tribulations are resolved in a simple yet unforgettable ending scene that shall forever be regarded as one of the most romantic of all time.
