Review of City Lights (1931) by Ross M — 13 Jun 2009
A sweet, touching and also funny film. If the ending doesn't send a shiver up your spine then something can't be right.
This was my first Charlie Chaplin film and I can say that I enjoyed it very much and now I realyl want to see other films of his.
City Lights has a great plot with a strewn out plot, which I think was deliberate and I must say it works well. It is a sweet film that is backed up with hilarious slapstick comedy.
The score is also very good and suits the serious storyline and the comediec storyline.
I don't know why, but I am finding it hard to write a review of this so I won't elaberoate much more. I would just like to finish this review by saying that it is a slient masterpiece that I think even closed minded people who hate silent/black and white films would enjoy if they gave it a chance as it is very enjoyable.
Three words: Masterpiece of comedy.
