Review of City Island (2009) by Mitch B — 14 May 2010
This (very NY) movie was good. Started a bit slow, but I like Andy Garcia and the all the acting was real good in this show.
The story is about a dysfunctional NY family that the dad is a prison guard and the whole family just seems to have way too many secrets from each other and their lives are clearly miserable because of it. Things come to a head near the end when everyone fesses up their deceits and lies and the family is united with happiness and relief and lives happily ever after.
The story goes way beyond this of course. One of the main plots is that the dad, ( Andy Garcia) discovers his son in jail, a son he abandoned while his girl friend ( before his marriage) was pregnant., and decides let him come with his family, of course, not telling his family that he is his son.
