Review of City Island (2009) by Natalie L — 21 Jul 2010
It might have been eyes down for another round of unhappy families, were it not for the fact de Felitta keeps the doors and windows chez Rizzo open to the elements: the result is breezier, and a good deal more entertaining to watch.
.. This whatever-floats-your-boat conviviality extends to the casting. If the ever-erratic Mortimer strains credulity somewhat as an aspirant starlet with all the right answers (save those pertaining to her own career), then compensation comes in the form of a screenplay offering Margulies the chance to be fierce and spiky on a bigger screen than she's been used to, and Garcia Sr.
- a producer here - a smart transition into gruff pop roles, plus the opportunity for buff pretty-boy Strait to make us forget "10,000 B.C.". All this, plus another funny-frazzled cameo from Arkin as a theatre director pleading for a moratorium on pauses.
Nothing groundbreaking, but nicely handled and very watchable.
