Review of City Island (2009) by Mike U — 23 Jul 2010
A perfect gem of a movie with a great cast that works well together. I was particularly impressed with Andy Garcia, who, with this movie, moved in my opinion into the select circle of top-notch male character actors formerly inhabited just by Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, and Al Pacino.
The movie is a gentle comedy about ordinary people trying to deal with extraordinary circumstances. Like "Next Stop, Wonderland," the movie brings to life a particular location and the usually blue-collar people who have deep ties to a particular place and culture.
