Review of City Island (2009) by Chuck D — 25 Mar 2011
Definitely shouldn't determine whether, after five minutes, it's a movie I'd be interested in watching. And by looking at the story alone you'd expect some sugary sweet, chick flick, guardian angel hunk movie (I guess it's still debatable).
But it's fused with a dysfunctional family comedy/drama (like Dan in Real Life). In the end I was surprisingly entertained and with the help of fellow friends' running commentary, it was fulfilling beyond what I expected.
I really think the annoying younger brother needed his time in the ridicule spotlight during the climax too. Although his side story isn't anything to be ashamed of, I think he deserved some crippling humiliation along side the rest of his family.
I guess while we're at it the sexy older sister got off easy too... They could've had everyone literally get in a car reck at the climax, her implants burst off of her chest on impact choking the son and catching the "friend" with the ridiculous accents afire.
...j/k ...no really they should've. Andy Garcia's an angry person.
