Review of Citizenfour (2014) by Robin V — 18 Jan 2015
Not an especially well made chronicle, but a very valuable introduction to overarching and overreaching surveillance. It's also nice spending a little time with the people behind the news; Edward Snowden and Glenn Greenwald seem like guys I'd enjoy hanging out with.
One distracting oddity:
Director Laura Poitras is part of the story, telling (in captions, not dialog) how Snowden contacted her and how they corresponded throughout. The word "I" is ever-present. But I had no friggin' idea who "I" was. If she introduced herself at the beginning of the movie, it slipped right by me and clues were long in coming.
It's a valuable document. I wish it were a better movie.
