Review of Citizen Kane (1941) by Muhammed A — 06 May 2012
Citizen Kane- A Motion Picture which is and always will be for a million generations !
The Rise and fall of man in society owes a great deal to the hype that the media imparts. Often it's so funny how media can influence the common illiterate man in whatever sort of nonsense they thrust forward. And the media is the biggest culprit for catstrophe. The life of a megalomaniac who craved and craved only for love from everyone is what's the basis of the motion picture Citizen Kane. Now Citizen Kane is no ordinary film which shows a mad man indulging in sadistic activities. Throughout the film we see the rise of Charles Foster Kane as an entrepreneur, newspaper owner and also as an independent nominee for the post of the Governor. The typical comical rise of a man so adamant, firm and commanding outcrossing every single human being in his path. The single rise of a man not for money but for the pleasure of power and being loved. Eventually After the rise comes the fall, the fall from the summit to the grave. All of these influenced Just by media hype only. Although laughable but the fact that media is the biggest nuisance is a poignant truth. The film Citizen Kane is maybe the first of its kind to narrate the rise and fall of a megalomaniac to his prime power and the gaping fall to nothing. This is the first motion picture of its kind which technically exploited every single trick in the book of filmmaking so masterfully and ultimately giving the viewers at that time a hell of an experience at the Theaters. Even while watching today the common man would wonder how brilliantly the photography of this movie has been done so well when the Zooming function in a camera was not even proper. This movie changed the way Movies were made and in fact influenced a whole century of American cinema. This movie is Directed, Written , produced and acted by one man - the great Orson Welles whose genius can be noticed throughout the movie. What this man accomplished in the 1950's by making this majestic motion picture is unbelievable. Truly This kind of a movie is far far ahead of his time. Technically this movie boasts one of the prime and best photography's ever done in Film history. The script written by Orson Welles is one for Ages, it is or may be one of the best scripts of the century. The acting by Orson Welles as Kane is excellent, it's truly a brilliant and outstanding ovation worthy performance which was snubbed off the Oscars. The editing of this movie is immaculately done with absolutely no errors at all. There is not a sequence in this movie which is unwanted or undesired at all. Sardonic and ironic in its own way Citizen Kane is one of those movies which boldly thought beyond the boundaries of normal cinema, which gave it its rightful reputation as an American Landmark in filmamking.
