Review of Citadel (2012) by Kevin R — 21 Jan 2014
They see fear. Sense it. Smell it.
An eccentric father and his pregnant wife are heading out of their apartment building when he steps on the elevator she is jumped and he is sent to the bottom floor. By the time he arrives back to his wife, she is badly injured. The baby is saved and his wife dies at the local hospital. The father tries to raise his daughter while battling the psychological demons of losing his wife.
"Everything about you screams victim.".
Ciaran Foy, director of Hotel Darklight, delivers Citadel in his first major motion pictures. The storyline for this picture is very compelling and has a lot of different elements. There is a great story of the struggling father, the people responsible for the death, and the psychological horror elements. The acting is also pretty good and the cast includes James Cosmo, Amy Shields, Ian Hanmore, and Wunmi Mosaku.
"They'll come looking for her, you know that.".
We watched this off Netflix because it seemed interesting to us. I did think the film was amazing well paced and had fantastic plots and subplots. This is a very underrated picture and it is definitely a must see. This reminds me a little of Let Me In. This may even be worth adding to your DVD collection.
"Get out!".
Grade: B+.
