Review of Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away (2012) by Michaela S — 23 Feb 2013
A visual feast. Everything about this movie looks good, from the stunning 3D to the amazing sets, to the death defying acrobatics. Beautiful. But there is one thing that they showed which they shouldn't have. I could see the roof of the performance space. Now this show is amazing as a live performance, but I was really looking forward to seeing what they would do with this as a film. The best thing they did was: now you can see some of the great moves in slow motion and from the best possible angle as apposed to the fixed view you would get live. But they could have got really creative with this cinematically. This is film, you don't need to show the lights and the stage. Use selective camera angles! Make me feel like I've been taken to another world like the title suggests. Sometimes it does feel and look amazing, but they do drop the ball there. If you are gonna see this one, watch it at the movies. Looks excellent on the big screen and the 3D element is nice.
3/5.
