Review of Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009) by Toni S — 21 Sep 2010
While I remember being put off by the premise on it's initial release, the "teen becomes vampire" I have to say I was a little surprised by the various different strokes this film added to the archetype of vampire lore, a lot of what I found unique and/or charming probably has more to do with the source material, but if they kept it from the book it must mean Hollywood's finally showing some respect for source material.
fairly surprising performances from the younger actors made this fun to watch, but it's really not the kind of movie you're going to get something more than face value out of, won't catch on like "Harry Potter" (and to be honest, teen starring book adaptations are in the mix all over the place due the the big HP franchise coming to a close next year) but it's certainly something different for the youngsters to SINK their teeth into.
...see what I did there?
