Cinerama, the grandest and grand-daddy of all widescreen cinema, took audiences on rollercoasters, ski shows, bobsleds, over America, and out to the West in the 1950s. It became propaganda during the Cold War.
It cannot be accurately reproduced in home cinemas. Cinerama Adventure is an interesting documentary about the history of the 3-camera Cinerama technology. Imagine the possibility if they could update this process using modern digital technology to add depth perception to 3-D IMAX.
