Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) by Brian F — 06 Jul 2017
As expected, it relies too much on the worn out schtick of bumbling and incompetent Jack Sparrow and hit or miss attempts at humor. The new younger leads do well with the material and Javier Bardem is good but not great.
It's incredibly overlong and drawn out, packs very little emotional punch and the sense of mystery and wonder and swashbuckling adventure of the first couple films in the series is sorely missing.
It just feels washed up, done to death, and trying too hard to have this supernatural feel which just ends up feeling like a repeat of past material. Good effects, some entertaining action and some of the jokes did make me laugh, but after the first two thirds, I was begging for it to just end.
