Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by David T — 09 Oct 2010
Yet another remarkable and inspirational movie.
Jim Braddock showed all the courage and strength against adversity to not only become a world champion but also and more importantly become a champion for the people, someone to look up to and give hope to a generation down trodden by the great depression.
He fought some great fighters, he even fought the legendary Joe Lewis and was rightfully inducted into the Boxing Hall Of Fame in 2001.
He struggled with his family from poverty and appalling living conditions with no work prospects during his lean years but once he got that second chance to change his families lives forever he took it with both hands and beat down anyone who tried to stand in his way.
Just as remarkable is the fact that after his glittering career in the ring he fought in the second World War and made rank of 1st Lieutenant with his long term manager Joe Gould.
Russell Crowe, Rene Zellweger, Paul Giamatti and Paddy Considine are all superb.
Ron Howard has made a brilliant and uplifting tale, and in this current time of financial trouble or when things look bleak their always seems to be someone who will stand up and fight for a nation or a region and give hope and happiness when we need it most.
Even if you have no interest in boxing this is still a must see movie.
