Review of Cinderella Man (2005) by Barbara B — 02 Jan 2011
I had previously seen Russell Crowe in A Good Year, American Gangster, & Gladiator, but this is the role where he completely won me over as an actor. He's the rare, exceptional talent that exists in Hollywood and I'm appalled that the Academy snubbed him for a best actor nomination.
His entire body of work is quite impressive and I admire his ability to be a chameleon with his choice of roles. Paul Giamatti was brilliant in his supporting role as James Braddock's(Russell) mentor and coach as well.
This is quite possibly my favorite boxing movie, and I applaud Thomas Newman for his beautiful score. The music and person of James J. Braddock are unforgettable. Beautiful film!
