Review of Cinderella (2013) by John L — 09 Sep 2016
In a step towards the right direction, Disney sets its live-action remakes for success with Cinderella, a story so familiar and yet so vastly different in the beauty that it proclaims. Here in this direction, wonderfully set and cast, (Cinder)Ella is not shown as the helpless girl who is saved by a prince.
Instead, she is given the strength to love and survive by beautiful parents who've inspired nothing less. The film follows as we see her be beaten, mistreated, and laughed at throughout, while she sees the beauty in everything and hopes that one day, everyone could be happy, and not just her.
The prince himself has been given a reboot, for the relationship between him and his father, admiringly acted, is one of the best of recent films. For a story so well known and expected to be repeated, Cinderella provides something new in a society that fancies the extravagant--heart.
