Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Eric H — 27 Jun 2013
The film is overall very quirky, full of fantastic dialogue and acted brilliantly. The separate stories and repetition are confusing but the characters are so likable that it doesn't hurt the film.
Shot on location, mostly with a hand held camera, the film immerses you in the streets of Hong Kong, a colourful, energetic crowded world. Wong Kar-Wai said of the film that he was trying to reconnect to the basics of cinema and the film definitely achieves that, essentially the film is just these idiosyncratic, emotional characters existing in a location.
A very original film.
