Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Fatih A — 11 Nov 2013
Another Wong Kar-Wai film for me this year and probably my secound favorite. This film got a very nice look. The colors are great and there are several visual treats here. The story is typically Kar-Wai like, a love story with a poetic wrapping. Some beautiful quotes and metaphores here, pretty girls and a pace that let the film float smoothly into your mind.
The chemestry between the actors are great and there are few characters here. You feel you get to know them all. It feels real and relatable at times - this surely is beautiful film making. If there is anything less positive to say about it it must be the impression of the first part being rather flat. That said, it was still interesting and it made sure that the total lenght never got too streched. I must definitely check out the follow up, "Duo luo tian shi" and hopefully it's somewhere near as good.
8.5 out of 10 pineapple cans.
