Review of Chungking Express (1994) by Andy S — 28 Jun 2017
This movie is really something special. I've never really seen anything quite like it. The cinematography and visuals in this movie are so captivating and beautiful. I mean everything, from the way Kar-Wai Wong shoots even the simplest of scenes. Everything is a visual feast.
Let me also mention that the acting as well the characters in this movie were so easy to like and follow along with. The soundtrack was amazing, making me very nostalgic of the 90's as well as California Dreaming. Watching this movie for the first time, I couldn't help but feel like there was something very familiar to me. Let me end by saying that there's this very human quality to the movie that's not seen in American cinema. Like how the two male cops coped with losing their girlfriends. There was something just very genuine and sweet about this whole movie.
Overall, I can definitely say that this movie is in my top 40, if not, my top 30. I'll definitely be watching this beautiful piece of art again soon.
