Review of C.H.U.D. (1984) by Marques M — 05 Sep 2008

You ever watched a movie that felt like instead of ending it just stops? Well, thanks to this and Dracula 3000 I've seen at least two movies that simply give up before the story was actually over."Yeah, we know we established that there were a number of "C.H.U.D." still on the loose, but....y'know? Fuck it..." I honestly can't tell if the film ends like it does because the director didn't know where he was going with it, or if they simply ran way over budget. In any case this movie gets to the tail-end of the rising action and abruptly rolls credits on you before you even realize that only one monster from an underground community was killed. Considering that these things are supposed to be on the move at that point that would make the ending of this movie fairly bleak. But it's not played that way. Photographer guy reunites with his 80's-hot girlfriend and everything's supposedly okay despite the fact that only one dirty bureaucrat and a single monster manage to bite the dust.

This movie is in need of some punch-up. If at least 8 minutes from the middle were cut, and a real ending were added this whole affair could've turned out alright. As is this movie just quits. At any rate, keep an eye out for John Goodman, and try to enjoy what you can about this one.
