Review of Chronicle (2012) by Bob S — 06 Jul 2013
I wanted to like this movie so much, but I became so put off by the lead character that it affected my feelings towards what may have been an incredibly clever film. The film is in the same genre as Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity; however, it's a sci-fi movie, not a horror.
I lump this in with the other movies because they all fall in the handheld cameraman category. The primary cameraman, Andrew, is such a drip and mean-spirit that an abusive father and dying mother cannot produce enough compassion to feel for him.
The actors are all unknown to big screen cinema which was intentional to enhance the impact of a handheld camera. That being said, the performances were all quite average. Just because Andrew looks like a young di Caprio doesn't mean he is di Caprio.
