Review of Christopher Robin (2018) by Van H — 18 Sep 2018
Remember all those heartwarming moments you experienced, as a child, watching Winnie the Pooh? Well, if you want to preserve those precious childhood memories, avoid this movie. The world did not need a Winnie the Pooh movie where Christopher Robin grows up, goes to war, and forgets his childhood friends.
The movie is nice enough at times, almost something that crowns rather than degrades the legacy of Winnie The Pooh. But then toward the end the movie turns into a pedantic, leftist Hollywood lecture on socialism. And could anybody with half a brain miss the homage to Train Spotting in this movie?
Like, seriously? It's a Winnie The Pooh movie and you put an homage to Scottish heroin addicts right in the middle of the movie? I totally caught that, for I am a man of Quite Enough Brain.
Looking back upon the deal I made--risking having my memories sullied for the possible gain of one more joyful romp with Winnie The Pooh--I am sorry I made that deal, and I urge you not to make the same deal.
I swear, anything good that once existed, Hollywood hunts it down and beats it to death with derivative sticks.
