Review of Christopher Robin (2018) by Jeremiah S — 25 Jan 2019
Four things made this film really work:
1) Jim Cummings returning as the voice of Pooh.
2) A wonderfully charming yet nuanced performance from McGregor.
3) At times - a very funny script. The funniest lines going to Brad Garret's Eeyore.
For me, the film gets off to a rocky start but the second and third acts are wholly charming and full of heart in a honest and earnest way. In a time in which many Disney live action spin offs are direct carbon copies of their animated counterparts, Christopher Robin follows more of a Maleficent model and adds to the pathos of a story and characters we all grew up with.
Also, my eight-year-old was utterly charmed and for that, it gets a glowing recommendation from me.
