Review of Christmas on Mars (2008) by Benjamin X — 13 Oct 2008
This was pretty incredible, I had a lot of fun watching it. Wayne Coyne's imagination is pretty awesome to produce something like this. My favorite part of the whole movie was the set, because it was extremely cool looking and it looked like it took a lot of hard work to make, it was made out of stuff like PVC pipe, packing material, and random electronic goods, really fun to look at.
I only had one issue and that was the fact that people seemed to hesitate a lot in line delivery, I don't know if the movie was written that way or if they were trying to just get things in one cut to save money regardless of acting.
But that's the only flaw I found, everything else was really neat, and the end warmed my heart possibly more than any family film ever could have. When you go into it, it helps to be a Flaming Lips fan, and to just think of a combination of 2001, Eraserhead, and the nativity story.
An interesting note to point out as well is that, as a movie made by a band, I was expecting it to be musically minded, it was way more film-like which is an interesting direction for a project like this, and what a film it was too.
Wonderful Freakiness at it's finest, chock full of symbolism as well. See it and indulge in the fancy-freaky wonder of it all.
