Review of Christine (1987) by Holly J — 02 Nov 2008
The House on Haunted Hill: Some interesting visuals, but less than 10 years later they look very dated. This is one of many turn of the century horror movies that made the mistake depending on too many CG effects. The story and characters are dull to a horrible degree.
The Strangers: Very scary. This and The Descent are the only movies in the past five years to REALLY kill my nerves. In that way I loved it. However there are a few story things, all of which break from the initial point of view, that really annoyed me. Since there isn't much of a story, such small bothers add up to a large percentage of the minimal arc.
Christine: Not a great John Carpenter film, but not a bad one either. I was amused watching it, and many of the car effects were very impressive.
The Talented Mr. Ripley: Wow, what a refreshing suspence, thriller. I had no idea what would happen. It isn't perfect, and some elements are predictable in the first hour but overall it is a masterful film. Very refreshing.
