Review of Christine (1987) by John D — 11 Jul 2013
There's a lot of speculation about John Carpenter directing "Christine" just as a job to get it over with. What makes "Christine" more than a job-for-hire production is the studios hiring a highly talented and brilliant director in mastering and taking advantage of the horror genre. "Christine" is one of Carpenter's best because he constructed scenes of nerve-racking intensity to build all the way up to very disturbing breaking points. Carpenter definitely juiced out an insane powerhouse performance from star Keith Gordon as the terrifying troubled teen and a non-stop unsettling tone. John Carpenter's "Christine" is a very underrated Carpenter thrill-ride and a very underappreciated Stephen King adaptation.
Thank God Almighty that the remake was cancelled. Carpenter has got his unique stand-alone vision to make this movie untouchable.
