"Christine" is a Moody horror film with hints of the supernatural thriller that is nicely directed by John Carpenter (Big Trouble in Little China, In the Mouth of Madness, They Live). One of the best things about this movie is the strong performance by Keith Gordon (Who went on to be a filmmaker himself) as Arnie Cunningham. Who is a bright if lonely teenager, who decides to buy a Plymouth Fury as his first car. Which it is a mess but he gets to repair slowly and falls in love with this name. Which the previous late owner named the car "Christine". But "Christine" is not ordinary car, which someone this car is actually alive and it is faithful to its owner. While Arnie has an deep and disturbed passion for the car, which it is the only thing he only cares about. Especially when he pushes away his loving if highly demanding parents, his only friend (John Stockwell, who went on to be a filmmaker as well) and his lovely girlfriend (Alexandra Paul). Things goes for the worse, when Arnie's car gets destroyed by Arnie's bullies at school. Arnie and especially "Christine" takes revenge on them or anyone, who gets in their way.

It is the film's mood is the most impressive thing of this feature and Gordon's performance in it. Carpenter's uses Panavision widescreen frame nicely in this picture. His music score fits the dark tones of the movie and it is a good use of rock & roll songs in it. It does have good character supporting performances by the late Robert Prosky, the late Robert Blossoms and Harry Dean Stanton in nice memorable roles.

"Christine" does have the occassional tongue in cheek attitude in it as times and it is darkly funny in its right moments but for the most part, "Christine" as a horror movie, it is pretty serious (Despite its rather ridiculous premise about a killer car). For Die-Hard Carpenter fans will love it. Others might enjoy the Rock and Roll soundtrack in it, the occassional well done cheap thrills and the acting in it. Loosely based on Stephen King's novel. Grade:A-.
