Review of Christine (1983) by Darrin C — 24 Jan 2015
John Carpenter's Christine Review.
John Carpenter is a director who I've really come to admire. There is something so stylish about his style of directing that really captures my attention every time I watch one of his films, it's a style that is completely, 100 percent his own, and that is something very rare for a director to have. This style of his is very prevalent in Christine, a movie adapted from the Steven King novel of the same name.
Christine is mostly about a nerdy teen named Arnold Cunningham who stumbles upon the titular Christine, a 1958 Plymouth Fury, and immediately is fascinated with the car even though it is old, and broken down. He buys the car against the advisement of his friends, and parents, and restores it to its original condition. He seemingly falls in love with the car, and over the course of the film he becomes an arrogant jerk, and increasingly more violent to his friends, and family who believe the car is influencing him. After realizing that Christine has been killing Arnold's enemies it's up to his friend Dennis, and ex-girlfriend Leigh to put a stop to the car.
Christine is an absolutely excellent film! All the actors give great performances, the special effects are perfect, and it delivers a few genuine scares. The real star, and of course the best part about this movie is Christine herself. John Carpenter did an excellent job on giving the car a personality of its own. Christine can murder, destroy, and play appropriate 1950's rock music, all while being a very loyal car/girlfriend I guess. You may say it's weird to date a car, but hey man I'd date Christine! She's the best car ever. I could only be so lucky to find a nice car that cares about me and that would kill my enemies for me, and have great tastes in music, she's perfect. Anyway Christine is another great film by John Carpenter, and gets 5 mutilated fat bullies out of 5.
"Whoa, whoa. You better watch what you say about my car she's real sensitive.".
