Review of Christiane F. (1981) by Samuel D — 10 Jan 2015
A tale about a young German girl, Christiane, who loves David Bowie. She starts going to clubs to hear his, and others' music at these clubs, drink and generally have a fun time in 1970's Berlin, but eventually, things spiral out of control as she falls for a local guy who has a drug addiction.
Being an impressionable 14 year old, she decides she wants to feel like he does, in order to become closer to him. So, to do so, she starts taking valium, then LSD, then heroine. She becomes an addict, alongside her boyfriend, her life spirals out of control, she turns to prostitution and stealing.
Although she does get clean in the end, there is a lot of sadness in the ending and throughout the film. Downbeat - just the way I like it. Based on a true story.
