Review of Chopping Mall (1986) by Zach M — 22 Jun 2008
I'm not feeling so great, so I get to enjoy an afternoon of naps and movies.
This movie is really really really fun.
Kelli Maroney can't stay away from a mall can she?! I loved loved loved her character! All the f'ing douchbag horndogs get annialated! Woo!
She likes the boy she's set up with on a blind date, and all she does is kiss him! Perfect! Not only that, she is the destroyer of all 3 Killbots. One day I want to grow up to be that character. The trailer made it seem cheese to the max, but there is quite a few really great suspense build-ups.
The details are great.
"Let's send these fuckers a Rambo-gram".
And, as always... yay for robots.
-------------------------------------.
Inspite of no pre-movie nap I was able to enjoy this entirely! My blood got pumping when Jim Wynorski loved loved loved my cake! I'm pretty proud of it too. He was so personable and funny, such a treat!
The previews were all unruly robot trailers, and for the first time in my life, I have actually watched more than half of the movies for the trailers shown!
I own this movie, an wow... vhs sucks! It was so crisp!
The robots win! Everything wins!
Jim had two great anecdotes...
-one about how one of the robots is still in working order, one was blown up in the movie, and one was destroys in the movie prop doomsday area which is roger corman's yard... he'd let these amazing prop items just get weathered! madness!
- the other was how the movie was originally released as killbots (how I heard of it from Jess) and that name tanked! Corman was a big believer in the name and posters driving sales so they were brainstorming a new name, and a gruff custodian changing a light called over "eh, you should call it chopping mall".
And they did.
The end.
I wish he could go on and on about all the exploits of working within such a magical and wild genre.
