Review of Chopping Mall (1986) by Matt S — 19 Feb 2009
A hilariously bad piece of cheesy 80s camp, "Chopping Mall" is basically what you would get if you tried to make a horror movie out of "Short Circuit". Contrary to the title, there is no chopping in "Chopping Mall" whatsoever.
There is, however, some laser-blasting, some larynx-crushing, quite a lot of electrocution, and one gloriously gory head explosion. While it may be good for a laugh or two (the 80s hairdos, slang and synthesizer soundtrack are great), the movie is only 75 minutes long and even that feels like a bit too much during the stupid final act which really only consists of people running from the ridiculously slow-moving robots, screaming their lungs out.
Still, if you like campy b-movies with that retro 80s flavour, this silly popcorn flick will not disappoint you.
