Review of Chop Shop (2008) by Dan K — 07 Apr 2011
Another of the latest strain of the remarkably organic films made like a camera is literally dropped in the middle of a real individual's daily life (minus the contaminated portrayal a documentary would deliver).
The character in this film is probably somebody you never imagined existing: an orphan child worker in the auto repair slums of New York city. It's the classic tale of one in poverty earning his way to the American dream.
Filmed in a lively, bustling immigrant neighborhood. Keeping your eyes glued to the background alone proves an excellent documentary for an American lifestyle.
