From someone who read the book about four years ago, I'd say this is a good adaptation. It wasn't a perfect adaptation as Fight Club was but it wasn't bad. There were some key memorable scenes that were done right.
It would have better if the movie went more in depth of why Denny was in the stocks. The whole ye olde English rule was pretty much ignored. And "What Would Jesus NOT Do," the phrase that carried the book the whole way through, was said only once in the movie.
