Review of Choke (2008) by Iqbal D — 09 Jul 2009
A bland, disenchanted adaptation of a brilliant contemporary work. Clark Gregg, while turning in a hilarious performance, has dilluded everything shocking, surreal, and absurd that characterizes Pahluniuk's writing.
Choke fails to fully commit to the horrors of the story by playing everything dry. Performances are mediocre with a handful rancid supporting actors. A couple of scenes from Rockwell and Houston are pretty strong, but it's otherwise a lackluster walk through of the potentially vicious content.
Truth be told, audiences were spoiled by Fincher's Fight Club. Our expectations are eternally too high.
