Review of Choke (1971) by Ryan G — 13 May 2009
I love Chuck Palahniuk's work and after the success of Fight Club I was exciting to see this film. But I think I had my expectation set way too high. I mean the story was great, but I feel like a lot was left out from the book.
The Character development was what was suppose to sell the screwed roller coaster that is Victor but I felt like it was filled with holes and I remained unconvinced at the end. Was it really necessary to have every female cast member naked at one point or another in the film? A lot of it was a little revolting.
We get it, he's a sex addict. I took a lot of issue with the lighting in the film too, it needed to be darker, more use of colours with themes and moods. It felt very amateur. I don't know, it was ok but disappointing.
