Review of Choke (1971) by Paul H — 02 Apr 2011
I thought this film was great, if a bit strong I recorded it on the old digibox when it was on Film 4 keep a look out for it. Sam Rockwell plays an ever lapsing sex addict, whose mother has some kind of mental illness. It has a load to say about who we are and our addictions.
Coming from the man who bought you fight club you can expect that things arn't what they appear on the surface.
The film is interspesed with short and fierce bits of sex which some people may find offputting. But the overall effect is worthwhile.
Highlights for me were the ladies in the asylum mistaking Rockwells character for a messiah figure and a pole dancer giving one of the best commentaries oin the book of Galations!!
Terrific!!
