(2000) Chocolat.
DRAMA/ ROMANTIC COMEDY.
Actress Juliette Binoche as Vianne Rocher and her daughter move to a small village town an unknowingly promote intolerance since the community had always followed a particular count's (Alfred Melina) religious traditions. And Vianne automatically rebels this custom simply by opening up her own chocolate shop. The story is supposed to take place sometime after or during WWII which is supposed to be something the village had never been prepared before.
In order for me to enjoy this, I would have to be very simple minded when there are other films that're similar in intentions and much more superior, such as "The Corn Is Green", "The Story of Louis Pasteur" and the later "My Left Foot". The story is predictable, self- indulgent, pretentious, with actors doing their best to liven this very average material which almost appear to be thought up by a 12 year old. Nominated for 5 Oscars because of I'm assuming the movie's association with Harvey Weinstein and Miramax comp.
2 out of 4 stars.
