Review of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) by Matthew D — 23 Mar 2013
Movie Matt here with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, based off a book which I happen to own. The movie's not bad (in 1968, people were saying it WAS bad & it failed, making only $7.8 million dollars) but it was freaking weird.
Having saw the film & later reading the book, I can safely say that the film was radically different than the book. For one thing, the film contains a fantasy sequence that wasn't present in the book & is a musical.
Don't get me wrong, I love musicals & there's some dang good catchy songs in this (like "Me Ol Bamboo", "Toot Sweets" & the title song) but the songs & music are the only redeemable factors in this film because the story itself falters because of the fantasy sequence that took up most of the second portion.
The fantasy sequence was COMPLETELY not needed! All in all, I stand by what I said in my opening statement, It's not bad but the fantasy sequence screeched the film to a halt.
