Review of Chinatown (1974) by Zack M — 01 May 2011
Dang, and when I say dang, I mean DAMN. That was one heck of a ride. Start to finish Chinatown is a completely enthralling neo-noir detective thriller. I cannot think of one aspect of the film which lagged behind the rest.
The screenplay, acting, directing, and everything in between was absolutely masterful. It's a tale of bitterness and regret and yet it pulls it off with such finesse and grace that you feel satisfied in its depravity.
It's really a work of art the way that all of the characters show their true faces in the last few minutes and all of their motives and choices come to life. I really can't wait to watch it again.
