Review of Chinatown (1974) by Jon S — 15 Jan 2018
Chinatown still holds up as the defining neo-noir and one of the great films of all time. Direction and screenwriting are excellent. The plot is fairly complex but never confusing. Jack Nicholson is at his charismatic best; Faye Dunaway anchors a deeply cynical story with wisdom and pathos.
Chinatown is in no way an uplifting film, but it manages to be engrossing, entertaining, and memorable.
