Review of Chinatown (1974) by Arun J — 30 Apr 2012
A private eye needs to be wise cracking and should look for trouble..Those are the rules and this movie is a stickler. Jack Nicholson comes with a cut nose/bandage for almost half the movie and is still impressive as JJ Gittes who has his first real case in the water wars of California in the depression and drought era.
Very less of direct violence, but a lot of treachery, back stabbing, conning and taboo being handled. Gives you a piece of history and a lot of eye feast.
