Review of Chinatown (1974) by Jez M — 23 Jun 2012
Chinatown is one of those exceedingly rare movies where every single element falls precisely into place, boasting intoxicating performances from Nicholson and Dunaway, a screenplay by Robert Towne that thoroughly deserved its Oscar, and a director in Polanski firing on absolutely all cylinders.
Jake Gittes investigation of Hollis Mulwray's death is the best and most engrossing story ever told through film, and one of the absolute greatest achievements in cinema.
