Review of Chinatown (1974) by James-Masaki R — 29 Jun 2012
It was a really creative and amazing time for Polanski in the early 70's, and "Chinatown" is still one of the greatest noir films ever made, even though it was made more than 20 years after the 'genre' ended.
A detective story that requires multiple viewings, as the first time you see it, you are just a step behind detective Gittes' wits, and the second time, you see his movements clearly from A to B. Brilliantly constructed, all the way to the surprising and disturbing ending, it's one you'll thing about for a long time after the end credits.
Too bad "The 2 Jakes" and the unproduced 3rd film couldn't live up to the first.
