Review of Child's Play 2 (1990) by Becca M — 07 Mar 2008
As with most horror sequels, overexposure doesn't do Child's Play 2 any favors. He's a periodically entertaining character, but there's nothing really menacing about him when he's running around in the open and getting all the best lines.
It's also agressively mean-spirited in the amount of torture and bad treatment (even by so-called good giuys) that little Andy is put through this time. At times it's tasteless, at times it's frustrating, but mostly it's just sort of illogical and dumb.
Half the fun of the original was how it slowly unfolded, but here it becomes more standard slasher fare. The showdown in the toy factory is well-shot and inspired, however, and one wishes that perhaps the entire movie was done in this twisted, colorful child's perspective.
