Review of Child's Play (1993) by Lanky Man P — 03 Apr 2011
Hi im chucky, WANNA PLAY?!!! Terrifying, just fucking terrifying, this is the stuff childhood nightmares are made of. This, the first appearence of the infamous killer doll, is still over 20 years on, a cracking little horror thriller, with just the right amount of dark chuckles to go along with the scares, and chucky himself is still convincing, a wonderfull blend of creepily lifelike animatronics, little person in a suit and Brad dourif's wonderfully sarky and wisecracking vocals, he truly is agreat horror villan, playing on our darkest childhood fears of dolls coming to life and offsetting it with his cheeky sense of dark humour, he's one of the all time great cinema boogey men.
The film itself is still a solid, very well made shocker and more than holds up to todays horror flicks, a time when the genre has seriously lost it's sense of invention and fun, if you miss the times when horror movies where more carefree, the time of your evil old friends chucky, freddy, jason, pinhead and michael myers, then buy childs play on dvd and have a good time being scared.
