Review of Child's Play (1993) by Wailun L — 09 Feb 2010
Child's Play is definitely one of those horror films that has aged rather poorly, now feeling quite dated and ridiculous. There are definitely elements of dark comedy here, despite the fact that this is more of a straight-forward horror film than any of the sequels.
Brad Dourif makes an extremely campy turn portraying the voice of Chucky, and Chris Sarandon (from the classic "Fright Night") is a decent protagonist, but all together the film isn't overly memorable aside from the fear it may inspire towards creepy talking doll toys.
Some minor social commentary on consumerism can't save this flick from fading into obscurity soon after viewing.
